OUR MISSION
Dedicated to protecting our community, the volunteer wildland fire department is committed to swift emergency response and fire prevention. With a team of skilled firefighters, we work tirelessly to safeguard lives and property from wildfires. Our department values teamwork, courage, and professionalism in every operation.

Rapid Response
Local and state support often arrives too late to effectively contain fast-moving fires. Our mission is to bridge that gap by deploying immediately with necessary personnel and capabilities to mitigate the fires rapidly.

All- Terrain Accessible
All-terrain fire response is essential for accessing remote or difficult-to-reach areas where standard brush trucks cannot operate. Our team is equipped with UTVs, motorcycles, and highly capable off-road trucks to ensure rapid and effective response in challenging terrain.

Fire-Adaptive Community
A fire-adaptive community works collectively to prepare for each fire season by implementing prescribed burns, maintaining defensible space, and promoting ongoing community awareness. Gem State Wildfire will assist property owners prepare a defensible space.
Protecting Our Community and Firefighters
This photograph gained significant attention from news and media outlets after it captured one of only two firefighters left to battle a wildfire alone in Gem County during the past summer. This situation highlighted serious safety concerns and the lack of sufficient local resources for effective wildfire response and mitigation.
Incidents like this were the driving force behind the creation of Gem County Wildfire Services—an organization established to ensure that our community has dedicated, trained personnel and the necessary equipment to respond immediately and effectively to wildfires, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Our mission is to strengthen local wildfire response capabilities and prevent situations like this or the 2024 Lava Fires from occurring again.
